BellaBot says "I'm lost, please push me to the starting location"

⚠ Power the robot off and disconnect charging before any physical inspection. Opening a machine can void its warranty — check yours first.

What it means

The robot has lost its position on the map. Per Pudu’s official BellaBot Pro operation guide, this is a positioning failure with a defined recovery procedure — not a reason to reboot repeatedly or re-map from scratch.

The official recovery sequence

  1. Verify the right map is selected. Wrong map = permanently lost robot. Multi-floor or multi-zone venues hit this constantly.
  2. Move the robot to the boot point — directly under/at the marked starting location, facing the correct orientation — and let it re-localize.
  3. Clean the vision sensor. In a restaurant, the top vision sensor collects an oil film that degrades localization. Pudu’s guide specifically calls out oil stains: clean with a lens cleaning kit, not a dry wipe that smears.
  4. Check the fill light. The guide’s diagnostic: the fill light should show red; if it doesn’t, that’s a hardware issue — contact support rather than continuing.

Preventing the relapse

The same official guide’s maintenance schedule exists precisely to stop this error from becoming weekly ritual: clean the vision sensor, depth sensors, and LiDAR weekly (cloth + lens cleanser, power off first), and address visible contamination immediately. Two environmental fixes from the guide’s movement-troubleshooting section also apply: keep the robot’s routes above minimum travel width, and cover mirrors or reflective metal along routes with matte stickers 16–20 cm above floor level — reflections corrupt navigation.

If it keeps happening

Recurring positioning loss after clean sensors, correct map, and route fixes is a support case. Under PUDU Care or a dealer plan (RobotLAB services BellaBots nationwide), this is a covered diagnostic; out of contract, note that Pudu’s published direct on-site rate is $500/day plus travel — strong motivation to exhaust this checklist first.
